Misleading matertial,
by Ralph N., 2010-06-24

The manual was very hard to follow. Never sure which area refered to my product. Tech support was inadaquite to say the least. Eventually they said the product was defective I think just to get me off the phone. The best I can say about the whole experience was the hassle free Amazon return policy.
Buyer beware of yhis product.

Volume threshold,

Great player. Happy with controls. I used this player for about two weeks. I just sent it back because it does not output enough bass. I was listening to a song I know well and something was missing so I compared it by playing the same song with my old player through the same car stereo - big difference. I emailed Archos and they said they were sorry. I started to investigate and it turns out that this player is likely manufactured under EU regulations that limit the decibels. I hope the American government doesn't start regulating our mp3 players in the future.

Sansa has a comparable unit in this price range and I have already ordered it. Amazon was great as always, BTW. The Archos arrived much quicker than stated in great condition and the return was quick and easy, but the decibel limitation was not advertised.

Thanks Amazon

Very good but not perfect,

I have order several popular mp3 players. This was the only one that kept the music together in the files that I transferred. It saved much searching for the songs that I wanted to hear. The down side is the slider bar to move through the menu list. Once I got use to it, it was OK but I preferred the rotating dial method. All things considered, I like this unit and it was the right price for the value.

great for the $$$$$,

I bought the Archos 2 for my wife to use while she's at work, she loves it. Its easy to understand and operate, comfortably compact, but there is one thing that was wrong in the product description. It does not have a FM transmitter as indicated, so you cant transmit your music to a car or other sound systems. However it does have a FM receiver and it works great. I have and older Archos mp3 player and its worked flawlessly for many years.

Great Little PMP/MP3 Player,
by B. Mayo, 2010-03-12

I am still amazed by the quality products that Archos continuous to put out. This will be the 7th Archos PMP that I have bought.

I had bought this A2 for my daughters' birthday. So when it came in I checked it out. And it really is a great little device. It is extremely lite weight making it very portable. The display is very clear and crisp with a very good video/picture quality (considering the size). I will admit that the tactile slide bar does take a little getting use to, but it does work very nicely. There does seem to be a trick to using it (you have to slide your finger the entire length of the slide bar). The FM radio works good, with clear static free sound. You can manually scan channels or have pre-sets setup. The sound quality from MP3's is excellent. And the supplied ear buds are very nice, with a good full range of audio. I didn't play with the audio recorder that much, but it seems to work really good too. Video is clear and smooth when playing. The video does not skip around like on some other PMP's that I have seen. The built-in micro SD card slot is very cool. Allowing you to expand your playable music/video selections.

There are only a few minor things that could be better or setup differently.
When adding video, you have to first convert it (with supplied software). The conversion actually rotates the video so that it will play on the A2. You also have to make sure you have the right settings. (resolution 220x176 with 16:9 aspect) or the video will not play. The upside is a video file that is normally 1.2GB is now about 400MB. And the other issue is a lacking in setup options. The current setup options work good, but are basic in function.

But over all the A2 is an excellent first PMP for anyone. Or even an extra, to take out for a run, to the gym or even on a road trip.
