Great Idea! But does not work...,
by S. Kirby, 2010-04-19
I really enjoyed the idea of this and the look is great! but... it does not work. I tried every station I could and it just did not work. The bass was ok, but when the actual singing for the music started it was EXTREMELY static-y. So what's the point of the product looking nice if you can't even use it?
Excellent description and product,

The item was exactly as the description said, was cheap, and received in a fair time. Love the product.. super small and convenient.. great for my road trips! Thanks again!!

I love this transmiter because when I use it with my ipod mini I can put them in the armrest and it has a good sound.
The only thing I dont like it, is that drains the battery so quickly, but I always use it with charger.
Not for City use but can make it work if you can add antenna,

First of all Pros and Cons: I have used at least a half dozen other FM transmitters and writing this review. I am using this for the past couple of months now. Do I like it? Yes. I do for the Pros listed below and hate it for Cons but didn't wanted to get rid of it since there is no better alternative in the market and there is a workaround detailed below.
Pros:
1. RF Remote
2. Pass through power adapter
3. Very sleek and nice looking
4. Good sound quality when it works with no interference
5. No external power required
Cons:
1. No buttons on the device, so don't loose remote ever.
2. Absolutely NO NO for city driving .. wait there is a workaround :)
3. No display on the device itself.
4. Steering hugger for remote is not all that well designed.
Workaround: *** DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK *** Don't curse if if you screw it up in doing the below or you don't know what you are doing. This is for guys who can tinker with stuff only...
Basically the transmitter has a very tiny loop antenna inside it you need to solder a 6 to 8 inch copper wire to the device so it pushes the signals more stronger. After I added the antenna it worked quite well on few frequencies that never worked before and the sound quality improved too. I drive to work in LA about 90 miles everyday so I need this kind of gadget with RF remote and a sleek transmitter that I can switch to different vehicles.
Ok, Now coming to the point. You have to split open the Tunestick with a box cutter by prying open along the sides gently... You will notice a thin circuit board with antenna coil like a race track. Now remove the antenna board with a soldering iron. Note that the board is glue to the motherboard, don't worry you can pull it up gently. Now find a 8 inch copper shielded wire strip one end of it and solder to the area where the antenna circuit board was soldered. Etch a small groove to the clam shell of the tunestick and close the cover, you may have to put tape on both ends of the stick to make sure it is closed tightly and also helps antenna not to move. The wire sticks out of the gadget but hey it works. Well you are all done, give it a shot and see if it works.
Hope this helps.
Love it if it worked better,

This item is a great idea. I actually had one before that unfortunately the remote stopped working after only 6 months. I changed the battery but it still didn't work and it was past the manufacturers 3 month warranty so I couldn't do anything. Now I know why its only 3 months. I read other reviews that said it stopped working just after 3 months. Then it would lose the signal frequently the volume doesn't work clearly its all static. I decided to buy this new one thinking maybe they improved on it. Not much unfortunately. I still love the remote function on the steering wheel its the only one like it, it is very convenient. And I like that its wireless so I can play it on any radio. The volume is still ok but I do lose the signal frequently and there is static sometimes. I will be shopping for a different one.
