Poor quality materials, good while it lasted,

Loved it for 6 months, then it would not stay closed and hold the phone in place. Somehow, due to either road vibrations or normal wear, the ratcheting sides would always pop back open when I closed them. Upon opening the device, I saw a tiny, tiny plastic post that had broken, rendering the ratchet inoperative. Flawed, poor design rendered this quite pricey mount useless after only 6 months. Avoid this mount!

I bought this mount seven months ago and was quite impressed until it broke this week.

Pros:
> The suction is exactly what you're looking for - it won't fall off even in the coldest weather. I live in the Midwest and the device remained on the windshield through the winter.
> The arm is high quality - I didn't have trouble with shaking and bouncing like some other reviewers.
> The holder itself is quite accommodating to the size of your phone regardless of whether you use a case.

Cons:
> The release button is on the back and is a bit clumsy. It is possible to release your phone/iPod with one hand but it's not the best design.
> The holder broke this week; as a result the side-arms that squeezed my phone no longer stay tight, as though I'm holding in the release button.

I'm going to contact Kensington for a replacement as they apparently have a 2-year warranty.

i just received this product today and me and my wife were watching a movie on my Ipod touch on our one hour trip. This product works better then expected and its very affordable, somebody said it only last for 6 months for them, i mean with the price i can afford another one, $10.00 and some change for 6 month is good.

 

Hit or Miss,

I own two of these now, one for each of our cars. We've had one of them for almost exactly a year now, and it's still doing a great job. The other one we ordered back in March 2010, and it broke this week -- it no longer latches and the sides slide open without the release button being pressed.

Unfortunately, the return window has passed on the item, so I'm considering purchasing another unit as a replacement. Currently batting .500 on this product, let's hope the third one purchased improves the average.

 

Best mp3 car mount I've owned,

I'm very pleased with my Kensington MP3 car mount. It holds on to my iPod Touch very securly and the suction cup mounts the unit to the windshield (or dashboard)indefenately. The mounting jaws releases the player with a simple push of one button whenever I'm ready to take my iPod on the go. The car mount works with my son's Microsoft Zune and my wife's iPod Video, and I'm sure it will work with many other MP3 players as well.
