Pretty Decent Unit for the Money,
by Len, 2010-07-26

Bought this for $20 off one of Amazon's suppliers. Came properly packaged (as new), installed easily and works as advertised. My Audi A6 steering wheel proved too chubby for the length of velcro strip on their remote so I had to add a small piece to extend its reach; no big deal. Unfortunately for my 2001 vintage A6, its Bose radio has no aux input jack, so I have to use one of those cassette tape adapters (cassettes, remember those?) as well as a female-to-female splice connector. Again, no big deal really.
However, when I connect the cassette adapter to the audio feed straight from the Kensington cable the sound quality has a very low, tolerable, but audible distortion. If instead I plug the cassette adapter's cable directly into the headphone output on the iPhone, the distortion disappears completely and I hear nothing but clean, crisp audio. The output level also drops a tad doing it that way but one more click on the radio's volume knob solves that. For some reason though, that headphone option doesn't always work. It may be the order in which I install stuff; maybe the cable has to be plugged in last and I occasionally disrupt the sequence of events by pulling the iPhone from its little cradle in mid-song. Anyway, it seems as though the iPhone sometimes defeats the output from the headphone jack when the unit is in a cradle like this.
Anyway, it certainly sounds decent enough going through the Kensignton and even better through the headphone jack. I used to run the iPhone through the cassette adapter even before getting this unit but having the iPhone in a cradle like this and not on the seat, and being charged at the same time, AND having remote control would have been a decent buy at $79; at $20 it's a no-brainer. Now we'll wait to see about it's durability and reliability, both of which have been criticized elsewhere in these reviews. But after 4 weeks I'd say so far, so good.

Customer service? Yeah right,
by L. Armstrong, 2010-06-14

I received this in a timely manner. When I opened it, there were instructions, vague, but instructions. I followed them to the letter and when I went to open the remote to insert the battery the entire mechanism disintegrated in my hands. After spending the better part of an hour trying to put Humpty back together again, I called Kensington's "customer service" located in India or Pakistan. I was told that they don't even make this model anymore that I was just out of luck. Come on Amazon.....don't peddle garbage on here!!!

Great Product... If it kept working.,
by Steven J. Tomassetti, 2010-06-01

I bought this item from Amazon back in January and just last week it gave up me. The item was perfect for what I needed it for in my '07 Grand Cherokee, was easy to use and looked great. I had it plugged in and never removed it for 5 months, it stayed put and never shifted or came out with sharp turns or hard stops.

Early last week it stopped charging my iPhone. Mid-week it stopped staying in place and would fall out pretty often. Late last week the audio stopped working and then the head piece popped off of the neck. Now I just have a piece of junk. Maybe it worked great in the cooler months and now that it is hot out and the lighter port expanded and it no longer fits right or the wiring is not rated to take the heat and humidity.

Like I said, this is a great idea and product that appears to have a short shelf-life based on the other reviews on here. I ignored the other comments and thought I was different... until last week. It's now too late to return it back to Amazon.com. I'm pretty disappointed.

I should have heeded the other reviews,
by James A. Castro, 2010-05-23

I received this item brand new in the package. I'm thinking to myself "Finally! A car solution!" I opened it up and found the gooseneck broke and one of the adjustable arms that cradle the iphone won't adjust. I'm sending it back. I'm very disappointed in the build of this product. It feels cheap - and is! and am very disappointed in kensington. They are better than this product.
