Works in my Mazda Speed 6,
by lynxsta911, 2010-07-15

The cigarette lighter is located at the base of my dash which is a perfect location for this mount. Some careful twisting of the arm was required to get it just right and out of the way of the stick shift. Do not attempt to adjust the arm by holding on to the holder or it will break!

I bought two this time, to replace the first one which was stolen. We liked the first one so much, that when I was going to order a replacement my husband wanted one too. It is very well thought out, having a power-pass-through and fully adjustable holder. It works with my husband's Blackberry and my HTC Touch Pro in its case. I have my phone plugged into the FM transmitter and power all together.

Occasionally I have to push the mount back into the cigarette lighter because it has worked its way out, but overall it holds up well with the road motion and shaking.

Not Made For Daily Use,
by Joe, 2010-07-07

It works as advertised for the first few weeks - but it does not seem to of been designed for daily use. The release mechanism on the device holder became unreliable after a few weeks and would take some effort to release my iphone. The connector on the arm which you slide the removable holder on and off, snapped off pretty easily one day. Looks like I could super-glue it, but I gave up on it instead. I do not recommend buying this or similar holders unless you will very infrequently remove/insert the device from/into your care.

Live and learn.

It works OK if ...,
by Rocky, 2010-07-07

The unit plugs into your cigarette lighter to hold your iPhone (or iPod touch.) Cigarette lighter sockets are located in different places in different cars, and my two cars have them in very different locations, requiring adjustment when I move it from one car to another. The flexible arm if very stiff, and takes significant effort to adjust. The benefit of the stiff arm is that it holds your iPhone steady. Where the flexible arm attaches to the iPhone holder is very weak plastic. It is natural to want to grab your iPhone while in the holder with one hand, and grab the flexible arm with your other hand, to adjust so you can see your iPhone clearly. This quickly results in breaking off the iPhone holder rendering iPhone mount as garbage. I broke my unit before ever getting to use it. Amazon support was great, and said I could have a replacement at no cost (no shipping cost either,) or a full refund. I decided since I knew the weakness of the device, I'd try again. It works reasonably well, but it is difficult to adjust using 2 hands on the flexible arm, and you cannot hold the iPhone holder.

Works great for my EVO!,
by SDB1, 2010-06-26

This setup works extremely well for my EVO! The device quickly rotates between portrait and landscape mode!

As with any mount you have to find a solution that fits your vehicle. You need to consider possible interfere with your vehicle controls. A little common sense and a good store return policy and you can find a mount that works well for you. I drive a Sedan with a console gear selector and a power plug that is offset so this mount doesn't interfere with the gear shift. It works great!

A few tips-

The mount is plastic. Don't wrench on the part that grips the phone trying to adjust the gooseneck. It WILL break! Instead grab the top portion of the goose neck or remove the phone clamp before adjusting. A little bit of care and you'll be able to adjust it without too much drama.

The laws of physics apply to this device. It isn't secured in any way other than friction with your power plug. If you don't have a tight fit it will flop around and you may need to consider a different device. If you stretch out the gooseneck and don't keep the weight directly over the mount it WILL sag! Kensington makes two other mounting solutions with this same clamp that may provide a solution if these two conditions cannot be met. If your power plug is recessed you can sometimes wedge a piece of rubber or spacer between the mount and a surrounding part of the car to help support the mount and reduce any shaking. Not ideal, but it works very effectively!

Any cords can be ziptied to the gooseneck once you get it adjusted. This keeps everything tidy and will keep the cords from getting snagged by a moving seat or people getting in and out.

Gentle hands,
by Matt M, 2010-06-20

The Kensington Power Port Car Mount is easy to setup and I like the fact that it plugs into the lighter port instead of the windshield. The bad part came when I tried to adjust the cradle and it broke off in my hand. It seems where the cradle and the stem meet was glued in. I'm no He-Man so it shouldn't have broken off that easily. It probably wouldnt have been too awful if it was 5 years old. Unfortunately it broke the day I got it! What a bummer. It was a good thing I had some crazy glue. I poured all the crazy glue from where it broke off and its holding....for now.

Maybe it was just a defective product, it happens. Wether I would buy another if the crazy glue fails is still a question. I must add that it's working....for now, I just have to use gentle hands.
